Weekday/Night Bible Studies

Tuesday

Tuesday Evening Bible Study

A women's class is held every Tuesday evening from 5:30-6:30. Childcare is provided at no cost.  In the Welcome Center classroom.   Led by Pat Bodenhamer. "Broken and Blessed." This is a 6-session study that starts January 16.

Let God use your families imperfections for His purposes. Broken and Blessed is a six-week study that traces the story of the Genesis family from Adam and Eve through the generations to Joseph, bringing blessing from brokenness. We will see that despite both good and bad traits that were passed down, God worked for good in every generation - determined to transform those within and outside the family bloodlines. The study ends with the story of Joseph, who decided to stop the cycle of previous generations, offering forgiveness and grace to his brothers.

Through these stories of Genesis, New Testament teaching about family, and stories of contemporary families changed and used by God, this study shows us how God can use our own imperfect families to bring blessing in a hurting and broken world.

Wednesday Night Bible Study

John leads the study, "Who is This Man?" on Wednesday nights from 6-7.

Jesus' impact on our world is highly unlikely, widely inescapable, largely unknown, and decidedly double-edged. It is unlikely in light of the severe limitations of his earthly life; it is inescapable because of the range of impact; it is unknown because history doesn't connect dots; and it is doubled-edged because his followers have wreaked so much havoc, often in his name.

He is history's most familiar figure, yet he is the man no one knows. His impact on the world is immense and non-accidental. From the Dark Ages to Post-Modernity he is the Man who won't go away.

And yet . . .you can miss him in historical lists for many reasons, maybe the most obvious being the way he lived his life. He did not loudly and demonstrably defend his movement in the spirit of a rising political or military leader. He did not lay out a case that history would judge his brand of belief superior in all future books.

His life and teaching simply drew people to follow him. He made history by starting in a humble place, in a spirit of love and acceptance, and allowing each person space to respond.

His vision of life continues to haunt and challenge humanity. His influence has swept over history bringing inspiration to what has happened in art, science, government, medicine, and education; he has taught humans about dignity, compassion, forgiveness, and hope.

Sunday

Brother John leads a Disciple study on Luke and Acts Sunday nights from 5:30-7:00 pm
Anyone is welcome to join this study. Cost for materials is $16. The group meets in the Welcome Center. Please let us know if you will need childcare.

This 12-week study immerses you in the books of Luke and Acts.
Disciple Fast Track Into the Word Into the World is an adaptation of the original, bestselling Disciple Bible Study Into the Word Into the World. The study is ideal for busy people who want to fit an in-depth Bible study into their schedule. The study retains the familiar Disciple format with its theme word, theme verse, statement of the human condition, daily and weekly assignments, and prayer.
Into the Word helps readers deepen their understanding of Scripture and make connections between what they already know and what they are reading. Each week you will encounter three spiritual disciplines, learn what they are, and how you can engage those disciplines. The first discipline varies from week to week, then moves into Sabbath and prayer. In every session, you commit to how you will respond to Scripture in terms of ministry in the world.

Sunday School Classes for Adults

9:00 am Class

  • Early Bird-

Since all other Sunday School Classes meet at 10:00 a.m., the Early Bird Class was started several years ago for those members of FUMC  who ordinarily attend 8:00 church and wanted to meet together for study immediately after that early service.  Most of our members are in the age range of middle-age to older, but we welcome any person who would like to attend our class. We have two great teachers—Beverly Crawford and Donna Jones—who present our weekly lessons from Adult Bible Studies and lead our discussions. We are ongoing in mission by making regular monetary donations to various FUMC projects and to community charities. Members of the Early Bird Class provide loving group support for each other  in times of any kind of need. This class meets in the room outside the sanctuary.

10:00 am Classes

  • Alpha Class - This class ranges in age from mid to late 40s to the oldest member who is over 90.  They enjoy study that provokes discussion.  Currently they are using the Short Term Disciple material and studying the Old Testament.  They meet on the 2nd floor next door to the music office.
  • Young Adult Class - This class consists of those in college and beginning their careers who are under the age of 25.  They meet on the fourth floor across from the confirmation class.
  • Coffee Break Class - Single and married adults, loosely in the age range of 35 - 50. They are currently studying The Old Testament. They meet on the second floor.
  • Fellowship Class/Prayer Corner Class -  This class consists of members of all ages.  They meet in the smaller classroom on the basement level.  The Fellowship Class study material comes weekly and addresses the intersection of the Bible and our faith with the things that are happening in our world each week.
  • Homemakers Class is our longest running class.  This class has been together well over 50 years.  In fact, a few of them remember the "old" church.  They are a vibrant group of women (and men) who love studying together.  They meet in the chapel, just off of the narthex.
  • Pairs and Spares meet in the Welcome Center Classroom. There is a wide range of ages, generally from the 60's upward, although all ages are welcome. The class consists of married couples as well as singles coming from a broad range of backgrounds and life experiences. This class utilizes the Uniform Series International Bible Lessons using a combination of background lesson lectures to stimulate class discussions. The members of this class are deeply and actively involved in many ministry areas of our church.
  • Sisters in Spirit is a women's class that meets in the room off of the sanctuary.  They vary in ages and enjoy study material relative to their faithwalk with Christ.
  • Transitions Class - This class consists of mostly married and single young adults.  Many of them have young children.  This class studies contemporary topics that meet them where they are in their lives:  beginning families, living out our faith in our jobs, dealing with life, etc.  They meet in the Welcome Center.
  • Wesley Class  This class is a mixed age group class.  This group enjoys study material written by authors like Kalas, Moore, and others.  They have a great time in study and fellowship.  They meet in the large classroom on the basement level.
